You've reached Hawke! Leave a message on this thing that I don't even remotely understand and I'll fumble my way to figure out how to answer your most important request.
[The dwarf recoiled slightly, though not out of disgust or even anger. Rather, he was confused, trying to parse together what it was that she was saying. He supposed he couldn't expect entirely coherent sentences from a woman that he'd had to all but drag from a bar.]
[Still, it was something of a damper on a mood that was finally leaning back toward the pleasant.]
Yes, I... suppose one does have to be present in their location. That.. they're at. [His brows tightened together.] I think maybe it's time for you to rest, Chuckles.
[She ignores him and continues on her own tangent.]
I'm happy here. But there are so many terrible things about this place. I miss the good things about Kirwall and yet sometime I'd rather eat my own boot than think about returning there.
[She glances up at his face.]
Is that just how it is? Is there no such thing as being happy wherever you are?
I think there's always going to be good and terrible shit no matter where you live. [Kirkwall had a decent enough view if you found the right part of the city, the drink wasn't awful and the information was good. Not only that, but some of his best memories had come from that hellhole. Some of the worst had as well, and that coupled with the smell made for a mix of bitter fondness that he wasn't... quite sure how to feel about.]
Personally, I try not to get wrapped up in thoughts of what was. It destroyed most of the Tethras family, it doesn't need to bring me down. [Orzammar had his parents and brother, but for him, it was just another thing to be bitter over.] I'd say I'm pretty happy here though. Not happy with everything but... happy enough.
[What's better than your best friend making gross gagging sounds? Probably a hell of a lot of things, but Varric doesn't care. He's pretty disgusted at that suggestion.]
My business is struggling enough. I don't need to drag it down by going preachy. That's reserved for you and behind closed doors only.
