[She's amused but not in a condescending way. More like she appreciates his tenacity.]

Is it bad to ask about it?

(A genuine question, honestly. He knows back home kids got clocked for asking about sex. Adults, for some inane reason, always seemed to assume that a kid asking about sex meant that they wanted to have sex. The reality was a lot simpler: kids were curious. Puberty was a big change, and Eddie had only started touching the edges of it, starting to really think about things and notice them. He didn't want anything except to not feel so fucking dumb.

It made being in the dark about stuff a lot more scary and confusing than it had to be when he was in the dark without a clue of anything at all. Having it come from an adult who he trusts to be honest with him? It might make him feel better at least a little.)

[She replies quickly but not in a tone that indicates she's answering fast to hide or make up for something. Thedas had it's flaws. Like the whole "mages have to live in towers" thing and the lack of vaccines and most technology, but they were surprisingly open about the topics of sex and sexuality. Ferelden wasn't remotely hedonistic but these things were simply accepted as part of life rather than anything to be ashamed of.]

It's natural. Completely natural. And yet, no one's really figured out how to talk about it properly. [To kids anyway.] And make sure no one gets the wrong idea abut things. Which is probably how people like Booger are lead into thinking you're supposed to go at it in the bully button.

(No, adults never did seem to want to explain it to kids. They felt it was 'inappropriate' even when it was something a kid was going through themselves. Getting confused by, scared of. Kids like Eddie who felt anxious more often than not because of it all. Most of what he knew about sex had to do with all the colorful ways it would infect you and ruin your soul and blahblahblah.)

I always thought that was kinda dumb. When I put my finger in my belly button it doesn't go anywhere.

(Which ...okay might have been TMI considering the context, but Eddie's trying to make a light joke here at his own expense.)

I also kinda always wondered why if it was the belly button, why only girls could make babies and not boys but boys have belly buttons too. It didn't add up.

Sound logic. Poor Booger just didn't have a mind for anatomy. Some people just lack those sorts of skills. A real tragedy.

The Derry school system isn't really known for being too hands on with the kids about this stuff
